General Manager - Underground and Solution Mining at Intrepid, Carlsbad, NM Description The General Manager (GM) is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall performance, safety, and strategic direction of three potash mining operations, including underground and solution mining methods. This position oversees operations, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and site leadership development. The GM promotes a culture of integrity, teamwork, safety, accountability, quality, and environmental stewardship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership for three potash/langbeinite mine sites, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. Oversee underground mining, ore processing, solution mining activities, processing plants, tailings impoundments, load-out, and well field operations. Manage market impacts, adjusting strategies related to production, expenses, capital needs, inventory, reclamation, workforce, contractors, and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements (MSHA, OSHA, EPA, BLM, NMED, etc.). Lead site managers, technical staff, and personnel; foster a high-performance, accountable culture. Drive continuous improvements in safety, environmental practices, quality, efficiency, recovery, and cost control. Develop and manage budgets and forecasts; monitor performance against KPIs and adjust plans as needed. Act as liaison with corporate leadership, community, regulators, and industry partners. Implement best practices in mining, processing, and maintenance to enhance operations. Develop succession plans and mentor employees for leadership roles. Ensure emergency readiness and response plans are in place and tested. Oversee capital projects, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades. Requirements Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 15 years of progressive mining/milling experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership. Proven success managing multiple complex mining/milling operations, with a preference for underground and solution mining experience. Strong knowledge of UG room and pillar operations, mineral processing, tailings, and well field management. Knowledge of quality management systems for product and safety compliance. Financial acumen with experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets. Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills. Experience with regulatory agencies and compliance management. Ability to travel frequently across multiple sites. Experience leading dispersed teams across jurisdictions is preferred. Familiarity with mine planning software and data-driven decision tools is a plus. Physical Demands Ability to work in a mining environment, including underground conditions. Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and work in varying weather. Travel to all sites as required. A pre-employment physical and hair follicle drug test are required.
