Medical Billing A/R Specialist

Location: Houma, LA or Thibodaux, LA (On-site only)

Department: Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)

Reports To: RCM Manager / Director of Revenue Strategy

Billing Platform: CollaborateMD

Position Summary

Physicians Group Laboratories (PGL) and Providers Choice Lab (PCL) are full-service diagnostic laboratories dedicated to accuracy, efficiency, and client service. We are seeking a Medical Billing Accounts Receivable (A/R) Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle Management team. This role is responsible for timely and effective insurance follow-up, resolving claim denials, reducing outstanding A/R, and ensuring maximum reimbursement through the CollaborateMD billing platform.

This is a critical on-site position and requires the individual to be located in or willing to commute daily to the Houma or Thibodaux, Louisiana area .

Key Responsibilities

• Review aging reports to identify unpaid or underpaid claims.
• Perform timely follow-up with insurance payers via phone, portals, and written communication.
• Research, resolve, and appeal claim denials or rejections.
• Correct and resubmit claims as necessary through CollaborateMD .
• Document all follow-up actions and maintain accurate account notes.
• Communicate payment trends, denial reasons, and payer issues to the RCM team.
• Collaborate with the payment posting and billing teams to ensure accounts are accurate and up to date.
• Meet or exceed department standards for follow-up productivity and resolution timeframes.
• Assist with reporting and provide recommendations for process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer guidelines, and company policies.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 2 years of medical billing and A/R follow-up experience.
• Strong working knowledge of CollaborateMD (or similar billing platforms).
• Solid understanding of insurance reimbursement processes, denials, and appeals.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Must be based in Houma or Thibodaux, Louisiana , and available to work on-site.

Preferred:

• Experience in a diagnostic laboratory or multi-specialty billing environment.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and payer-specific requirements.
• Familiarity with denial management reporting and A/R reduction strategies.

Work Location & Schedule

• On-site only. Must be located in the Houma or Thibodaux area.
• Full-time, Monday – Friday.
