Position Summary

 

We seek a passionate, collaborative, product-minded dev ops and platform engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the PlugShare platform, as well as development engineering. PlugShare aggregates over one million electric vehicle chargers worldwide with over six million registered users – and we are growing. Our platform powers the PlugShare suite of clients supporting web, Android, and iOS, as well as being the backbone for our B2B business data products and services.

 

You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with dedicated engineers, designers, and product managers. We value innovation, attention to detail, user advocacy, and the ability to take ownership of tasks while contributing to the larger team effort.

 

This role is primarily remote with periodic in-person meetings required in our Los Angeles office and occasional travel as needed. You will be part of a team that is distributed across the US. PlugShare is headquartered in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as subject matter expert and architect for our cloud platform.
  • Design, develop, and deploy high availability software environments and solutions to product requirements and technical needs.
  • Follow best practices and guide fellow engineers to assist in maintaining the platform.
  • Serve as an escalation point of contact in the event of critical issues.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of platform reliability and monitoring automation.
  • Evaluate, design, deploy, monitor, and manage AWS services such as CloudFormation, EC2, RDS, Code Deploy, Cognito, CloudWatch, SNS, S3, OpenSearch, Elasticache, and more.
  • Utilize monitoring tools like Sumo Logic and New Relic to ensure system performance and reliability.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain containerized solutions using Docker.
  • Build, test, and deploy Python applications.
  • Efficiently manage PostgreSQL instances as well as model and query data.
  • Leverage REST APIs and other data sources to integrate charging station data onto our platform.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks by ensuring timely delivery with minimal supervision.
  • Develop a deep understanding of subject matter such as EV charging, the PlugShare data model, and industry standards such as Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI).
  • Build and enhance data pipelines, ensuring proper functionality and data integrity.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and non-engineering team members.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation abilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of related professional experience as a dev ops engineer in a highly available environment with large data sets.
  • 5+ years of software development experience, preferably with experience in consumer mobile, data aggregation, and external API development.
  • 3+ years of experience coding in Python or similar backend languages, working with SQL and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency with public cloud services (AWS).
  • Expertise with SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Proficiency in identifying automation opportunities and designing/implementing their solutions.
  • Deep interest in applying dev ops best practices.
  • Strong collaborative skills that allow you to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and contribute to interdisciplinary projects with minimal oversight.
  • Understanding of API design principles and experience developing external APIs, drafting technical documentation, and scaling adoption.
  • A data-driven mindset, with an aptitude for instrumentation and data collection best practices and analytics tools to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of full-stack development, with experience delivering mobile applications using backend programming languages such as Python.
  • Familiarity with OCPI protocol and ISO 15118 is a plus

The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 USD to $155,000 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer discretionary target cash bonuses, restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval), and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, unbounded paid time off including parental leave, and a 401(k).
