Description Summary:
This position provides comprehensive resources to veterans, their dependents, and military in matters related to use of VA education benefits and Tuition Assistance. Process and certify student applications for Veterans Administration educational benefits in accordance with legal guidelines. Monitors student progress and process appropriate documents for the payment of veterans benefits. Provides technical assistance and information to students, staff and the public.
Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Veteran's Benefits Compliance
- Conducts the coordination, distribution, acceptance and processing of applications for veterans benefits programs
- Maintains accurate records; ensures Veterans Administration auditing requirements for compliance and accuracy of records are met
- Assist in monitoring and reporting, when necessary, on academic programs of veterans' benefits recipients
- Supervise and oversee Veterans Work-study student assistant(s);
- Veterans Services-Certification Administration
- Submit Certification Enrollment and Change of Status electronically to VA, via Enrollment Manager, in timely manner
- Provide assistance to students on a daily basis that come into the Veteran Afffairs Office
- Assist with event planning for the Veterans Services
- Develop and maintain protocols for front office functions including monitoring voice mail and email communications;
- Veteran's Benefits Advising
- Educate applicants on benefit-related decisions, policies and procedures
- Participate in on campus and various off campus outreach and recruitment activities for veterans, family members and current service members
- Assist in representing the University and presenting issues related to veteran benefits
- Inform veterans' benefits recipients about the policies and procedures of the Veterans Affairs programs and eligibility requirements
- Serving as liaison to Veterans Administration Regional Offices
- Serve as a veteran's benefits recipients' liaison with Veterans Affairs Regional Office, keeping abreast of VA programs and requirements
- Assist veterans' benefits recipients with information regarding pay-back pay, months of remaining entitlement and status of educational requests
- Assist in periodic federal and state VA audits
- Collaborate with the Director in all aspects of VA compliance procedures
Typical Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- A Bachelor's Degree in any discipline is required
- A minimum of one to three years of work-related experience is required to effectively perform the job's responsibilities.
- Preferred experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO)
Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Required knowledge of Veteran's programs
- Required knowledge of or working experience with the United States Military
- Preferred experience using Enrollment Manager
